Rap Superstar

Yo, I just flew in from Ohio…

Is your family always like, “quit freestyle rapping and get a job!”?  Do you win people over with your hilarious comedy routines?  Then perhaps, dear friends, you might consider signing up to be a contender in Eliza Skinner (I Eat Pandas, Stickerbook) & Shockwave’s (Freestyle Love Supreme) amazing show: The BEATdown!

Before you think you’re not cool enough to participate know that the focus lies in being funny and taking down your opponent.  It’s comedians who freestyle rap, […]

Patty Griffin: Song Goddess

I used to baby-sit a little boy who, whenever I’d make dinner, would sit in the doorway on the floor and watch me. I once asked him why he sat there and he said, “I like when you make us food because you sing.” I’ll never forget him saying that and the thought of me humming while he looked on will always be one of my favorite memories.

I was reminded of this recently when […]

Front Row Seats

To further prove that I’m obsessed with Lily Allen, I’d like to tell you about my Saturday experience.  Through a contact at Saturday Night Live I got to sit in on Lily’s sound check on Saturday.  This wasn’t the dress rehearsal or the live show (as I had shows of my own that night and couldn’t attend) but the sound check.  I took along a few friends who I knew to be huge LA fans and we sat in […]

MySpace Find: Kate Nash

While perusing Myspace for new artists (ex-boyfriends) I came across another UK singer, miss Kate Nash.  In all honesty I found her on Martha Plimpton’s (yes, that Martha Plimpton) page and immediately loved the song.  And if you can’t find cool music on cool people’s myspace pages then what the hell good is Myspace anyway?  (Ex-boyfriend stalking…)

Kate Nash seems to be taking the same route Lily Allen took with Myspace (and even has Lily in her top 12) so let’s hope […]

    Gossip + Lily Allen

I Lily want to see these shows. Ditto.

Two of my favorite musical ladies are playing shows in NYC and I couldn’t be happier!

Lily Allen plays SNL on February 3rd (with host Drew Barrymore - come on, could there be a cuter show than that?  Maybe if Drew was covered in kittens and Lily was riding a chipmunk.  MAYBE THEN.) and at Webster Hall on Feb 10th.

    AND

The Gossip plays The Knitting Factory on April 14th!

    Two reasons to […]

    You Know I’m No Good

You don’t know the half of it.

Aside from the fact that the title of this post CLEARLY refers to me as a person, it’s the title of a song you should download right now from iTunes by a classy dame from across the pond, Amy Winehouse. “You Know I’m No Good” sounds like it was recorded back in the golden age of song when people made music from their damn hearts. THEIR DAMN HEARTS!! […]

    Pipettes Dreams

    By DC Pierson

It is not fair how much I like The Pipettes. I never really stood a chance of not liking The Pipettes.

The Pipettes are - for people who don’t spend all day reading music blogs and foisting mix CDs on their friends, or people who aren’t one of those friends - a trio of female British singers who ape the conventions of 60’s doo-wop girl groups, and […]
