i am going to go on and on about Miranda July

mj_author_web

In the deli this morning, waiting for my eggs ‘n’ bacon on a roll, an ad for the new Phil Collins musical, yes musical, came on the radio. As cheesy welling strings filled the room, the involuntary muscle that is my heart filled with it. But just as manipulation was about to overtake me, I smiled a secret smile knowing that I had been touched more deeply than even Phil Collins could […]

Go Grindhouse Gals!

Zoe Bell is cool

You may not be a fan of the old-fashioned grade B movies, like I am, but you got to appreciate the sheer lady power represented in Grindhouse, the new Rodriquez/Tarantino kitsch-fest double feature. While these films have all the zombie gore, slasher scares, and scantily clad females standard to the genre, there’s something fresh about this take. Let me think what was it? Could it be that I didn’t walk out […]

Girls On Film. It’s Not Too Late To Summit!

There’s still time to submit a film for “Girls On Film”, a show featuring shorts from female directors, writers, and producers.

The short should be NO LONGER than 10 minutes. It can be quick ‘n rough. We just want to see your ideas! Trust me, mine is no “300.”

Films must be received by April 23rd. Send your DVD or miniDV with your name and email address to:

The L Word Update

Episode 10 -

Bette is a control freak, its her thing, and it comes from love. Jodi doesn’t know that yet, and she may never. They are both way to self centered to work.

Tina isn’t all into her boyfriend anymore. Now we can start the count down to the Bette/Tina reunion.

Paige and her son spending the day with Shane was so sweet.

Jenny finally found her director, and Kate Arden seems to be just as off her rocker […]

The L Word Update

Episode 9 -

Bette played herself acting all jealous. Jodi told her what the deal was, acting bitchy at the meeting was uncalled for. Especially since Jodi claims to be falling in love with her.

Tina and Jenny running all over LA going from director to director, with each idea being sillier than the one before was a waste of time. And why was Karina there in the last director’s musical?

Shane gave in and gave up Shay. I […]

Girls On Film: Call For Entries

Have you shot a 5-to-10 minute film that’s never been seen by anyone other your parents? Or do you have an idea for a short that’s not only funny, but delivers that somethin’-somethin’ that only a female perspective can bring to life? Most importantly, are you pretty?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any of the above questions, and I know  you did for the last one, then Girls On Film wants you and your brilliant, not-necessarily polished films […]

The Word Update

Episode 8 -

Bette is about to get really confused. She is totally into Jodi, but Jodi is completely emotionally unavailable. Then in comes Tina, and even though they have no business messing around again now, because it is so familiar and comfortable they are on the verge of a merge. I hope Bette isn’t about to fall back into that relationship without repairing any of its problems.

I knew Tina was going to get bored with her […]

Happy Black History Month

Today is the last day of Black History Month. There have been the usual facts revealed on PSA type commercials on TV and PBS had aired several programs that focus on the African-American experience. However the news media, both entertainment and serious, have been lacking in special little pieces that honor achievement this month. If my Mother hadn’t said something, I probably wouldn’t have noticed.

Why had this occurred? The Tragic […]

The L Word Update

Episode 7 -

Bette needs to break up with Jodi. She is her co-worker, she doesn’t like kids, and she said she can’t be monogamous. None of these things were hidden, Jodi has been very up front. If Bette is not careful she will be a wreck on the couch, in stinky PJ’s like Phyllis.

Tina needs to get over herself, she should have been more aggressive in acquiring Lez Girls and less helpful to Jenny. Tina didn’t even want […]

The L Word Update

 Episode 6 -

I am so glad that Bette started to learn sign language, but she and Jodi may not be as meant to be as I thought. How rude was that reaction Jodi had to hearing about Angelica. I’m not buying Jodi’s apology either, sooner or later the way she feels about kids will come back up and it won’t lead to anything but problems.

Tina was barely in this episode, what is up with that? […]
