Sara Schaeffer and Adira Amram will both be appearing - selflessly and altruistically - at Banj-aid tonight. Banj-aid is a benefit show for honky-tonk band, The Defibulators, who recently lost their banjo in a tragic hit and run. (For those of you who have never priced a banjo or been a musician in NYC: that shit is expensive!) Now they’re raising money to buy a new one, with some great comedy & roots rock performers helping them out.
Sad for them, but lucky for us because this show sounds pretty great and it’s only $10!

Comic Jenny Rubin has some talented friends - which helps when you need to pay for a wedding. Tonight at Mo Pitkins a stellar line up of New York comedians are getting together for a wedding benefit for Jenny and her man, Jasper. Carolyn Castiglia! Baron Vaughn! Ann Carr! Plus, any time we see Michelle Collins on a line-up we know it’s a show worth seeing.
If you love love, don’t miss this show. If you are a cold-hearted monster, you should proabably check it out anyway - it might give you some hope.

Hey, remember prom? Well, then you’re one ahead of me. I remember the pre-show peach schnapps and “champagne” and throwing up in an alley sometime in the morning, but in between there - your guess is as good as mine.

Dorothy Von Irony’s Journal of Literary Humor and Humorous Literature
(which is, in fact, exactly the thing it sounds like)
is seeking submissions for its inaugural issue

We are seeking submissions of humor writing, as written by and for the highly literate. Fiction and nonfiction are both acceptable, although fiction should seek to be especially humorous. Maximum legnth is 5,000 words. Minimum length is several words, unless you have thought of a single word that is funny enough to merit publication on its own, in which case you are a god among us. Poetry and visual arts (appropriate for black and white printing) will also be considered, provided that they are humorous, in the smartypants sort of way that makes us feel both hopeful and aroused.

Dorothy Von Irony’s is edited by comedian Jennifer Dziura (jenisfamous.com) and published by Sepulculture Books (sepulculture.com). Deadline for Issue 1 is July 1st, 2007. Please email all submissions as PDFs or Microsoft Word attachments, with appropriate introductory and descriptive text in the body of the email, to dorothy@jenisfamous.com

There is no payment for this, but contributors will have their names and humorous writing published in the finest quality inks, will receive a free copy, and will be invited to read their humorous writing at humorous events.

SketchFest NYC starts tomorrow!!! YAY!!! I really hope you can catch a show or 21. If you wanna come out and support the all lady groups like the ones I’ve mentioned, here are their scheduled dates,
